A Valentine’s Day Tribute to Our Rescue Animals: Love in Every Hoofbeat and Purr

This Valentine’s Day, we want to take a moment to celebrate the most loving, courageous, and heartwarming creatures we are so lucky to care for here at our sanctuary. While this day is all about love, we believe it’s important to remember that love comes in all shapes, sizes, and species. Whether they have hooves, paws, or hearts as big as the moon, our rescue animals are the purest examples of unconditional love, and we’re honored to be part of their journey.

Our hearts are overflowing as we think about the beautiful souls who have found their way to our sanctuary. Each one has a unique story, filled with triumphs, challenges, and lots of love. And though some may have faced hardship in their pasts, they are now surrounded by a warm community of caregivers and fellow animal friends who offer the kind of love and care they so truly deserve.

Take Abby, for example. This shy, sweet Paint horse has been through so much in her life. She came to us scared, skinny, and battling eye cancer, yet she continues to show us just how strong and resilient she is. Abby may be quiet, but her love speaks volumes—whether it’s through a soft nicker when you’re nearby or the trust she places in us each day.

Then there’s Peanut, Abby’s best friend. These two share a bond that can only be described as pure magic. Peanut’s joyful and playful energy has been such a healing force for Abby, and together, they remind us that love is powerful. Love helps heal, love gives us strength, and love makes everything brighter.

And we can’t forget about Romeo, our grumpy yet utterly lovable mini horse. He may act like he’s too good for cuddles, but don’t be fooled—Romeo’s heart is as big as his love for snacks. He’s the first to greet visitors with his little grumble and the first to make his way over to anyone with treats in hand. His unique charm and sassy attitude make him the ultimate Valentine’s Day character, showing us that even the grumpiest of souls have a lot of love to give.

Of course, no Valentine’s Day tribute would be complete without mentioning Kiba, the goofy ex-Amish horse who is always up to something silly. Whether he’s stealing hats, causing a little mischief, or just following you around because he loves being the center of attention, Kiba is a reminder that love isn’t just about being sweet—it’s also about sharing joy, laughter, and connection. His playful antics remind us to cherish the fun moments in life and embrace the quirky side of love.

These are just a few of the many animals who’ve found their way to us, but each of them has brought something unique into our lives. They’ve shown us that love comes in all forms—whether it’s through gentle gestures, unwavering loyalty, or mischievous fun. They’ve taught us about resilience, compassion, and what it truly means to love and be loved.
